Kim Wade, MBACP
Hello, I’m Kim, the founder of Clarity Counselling. Here are a few things I thought you might like to know.
My Approach & Philosophy
I believe that there is always a way forward. I believe it’s important to love and accept yourself. I believe that you are the best expert on you.
At times life can become busy, complicated and disrupted and we can become stressed and lose sight of who we are and what we really want and need. Life events can turn our world upside down, such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or the end of something. We can experience so many emotions, frustration, anger, confusion, sadness, depression and anxiety. Counselling can help you to access your own inner resources and gain clarity.
There are many ways to work therapeutically including working more creatively, all involve being truly heard without judgment. When we first meet, we will talk about what you want from your counselling, your goals and how you want to feel. You may have a goal that can be worked on in one session or you may benefit from having ongoing therapy.
My Story
Like most people I have experience times in my life that felt really tough to deal with. I was fortunate that I was able to access counselling, for me it got me out of a black hole and was life changing. It was the first time I had been able to talk about so many things that I had been holding on to. I rediscovered me and I started to really live life again. The things that used to happen that had me asking ‘Why me?’ stopped, I was in control. It didn’t mean there weren’t problems, it just meant that I was better able to deal with whatever came my way. And I was happier.
I’ve always been interested in other people, everybody has a story if you just stop and listen. The listening part came naturally, how to respond in a way that was helpful to the other person wasn’t always clear. This was why I started my therapeutic counselling training.
My training placement was with a hospice. This gave me the opportunity to work with so many people all with their own experience of bereavement. To be with someone in a place of loss and pain, to hear them as they share their grief and work with them as they find a way forward. There are no set rules when it comes to bereavement, it’s such a unique thing and what’s helpful to a grieving person can be as unique. I continue to volunteer for the hospice.
This led to set up Clarity Counselling, to help others by offering a confidential space where they can talk about what is important to them in a way that works for them.
“In order to empathise with someone’s experience you must be willing to believe them as they see it and not how you imagine their experience to be.”
Brene Brown

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if I can let them be… When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying. ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right corner’. I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
Carl Rogers
